Gary Singh has been operating the fully renovated Friendly Grocer and Bottle shop in Gular since May 2018. Prior to this, the shop had been closed for 8 months. Gary is proud to be serving and supporting the Gular community through his family business.

Buying local is front of mind on many levels for Friendly Grocer. Gary is keen to employ local tradies for work at the supermarket. He says, “it makes sense; the community supports us, and we have to support our local businesses”.

“We want to encourage more people to support local businesses by buying locally so we can attract more businesses to come and invest in Gular and make the town more happening.”

Gary also recognises the need for Gulargambone locals to have access to competitive pricing and products.

“We want locals to understand that we are competitive to Coonamble and Gilgandra when it comes to prices and we are always open to ideas and suggestions if we are missing certain things in the
supermarket,” Gary said.

“We started our first family business here and we have grown from here, so Gular is really close to my heart. I love the community and people are really supportive here.”

Gary sees value in a Buy Local campaign for community growth. Long term, he believes that with community support, more businesses will be attracted to invest in Gular, in turn boosting tourism and the general population.
